New VW Camper Van

The VW Camper is back and it’s been 60 years since Volkswagen released the famous Camper. The New Concept VW Camper is called Bullseye, which was the original name given to the Camper Van back in 1950. Although the camper van has some similar features to the old style camper such as the two tone paint work and the oversized VW badge and the V shaped bonnet, this Volkswagen Bullseye Camper Van is bang up to date. The VW Camper has been fitted with an 85kW electric motor which is powered by lithium ion batteries which are hidden under foot and early claims from Volkswagen say that you will be able to cover a range of 186miles on a single charge with a 0-62 mph time of 11.5 secs.

The VW Camper Van has been designed so that Petrol and diesel engines can be fitted, these will range from 1.0 litre to 1.4 litres. The new Camper Van is shorter than the 2001 Microbus but wider which allows for two rows of seats big enough for six people with a 370 litre boot. The two benches fold flat to create a bed and the rear bench folds away to allow for a 1,600 litre boot. The concept features a Apple iPad which controls all car functions such as Sat Nav and Bluetooth.

Although Volkswagen said the bullsye is just a design concept, they are going to keep a close eye on public reaction at this year’s Geneva motor show. A spokesman from Volkswagen hinted if the VW Camper Van made it into production it would take them into a completely new area of the market but this could prove to be lucrative move for the German car maker.
