Mazda Minagi CX-5 crossover was launched at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the CX-5 will slot into the Mazda range below the Mazda CX-7. The new Mazda CX-5 crossover is currently still at the concept stage but we expect the Mazda CX-5 crossover to go on sale as early as spring 2012. But don’t worry you won’t have to wait till then to see the finished production model as the Mazda CX-5 Minagi Crossover will make its appearance late 2011.

The new CX-5 Minagi concept will not only benefit from being a midsized crossover which is currently one of the most sort after vehicles on the market, but it will also debut Mazda’s new Skyactiv engineering philosophy and Kodo design mantra. Mazda’s new Skyactiv project hopes to make all vehicles lighter and more fuel efficient. Mazda hope to do this by reducing weight on all new and existing models by around 100kg by adding lightweight construction, transmissions and new fuel saving engines. Mazda say fuel economy has increased so much that the new petrol engine is 15% more efficient than the current 2.2 litre diesel engine that will also see an increase of 20%.

Mazda hope the new CX-5 will move the company towards a new style direction, Masashi Nakayama, who is Mazda’s chief designer said ‘I wanted to convey something different from the Mazda Shinari,’ ‘I felt a compact crossover SUV was the perfect vehicle to express agility and focused movement; the flexibility of four limbs moving in unison, and an upright posture.’ The new Mazda CX-5 concept does look like it can rival the Kia Sportage, Ford Kuga, and BMW X1 and Mazda hope with the new range of efficient engines will lure new customers into buying Mazda Vehicles.
