3. VW Polo Bluemotion - 91g/km and 80.7mpg

The Volkswagen Polo Bluemotion hatch isn't quite as eco as the Fabia estate - but it's not a million miles away. The polo is still capable of 80.7mpg while only producing91g/km of co2. But the Polo has lots of mini-Golf Bluemotion similarities.

4. SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive - 92g/km and 80.7mpg

The Seat Ibiza Ecomotive trails both its VW Group siblings in the CO2 efficiency stakes, but the Ibiza still returns impressive figures of 80.7mpg and 92g/km from the new 1.2 TDI Ecomotive range and even the roomy new Ibiza ST estate achieves the 80mpg mark.

5. Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 CDTi 95 - 98g/km and 76.3mpg

Vauxhalls main competitor is Ford and they are always determined to match them whenever they can. With the latest 95bhp 1.3 Corsa diesel engine, it has done just that. The Vauxhall Corsa range now has a model that can achieve an average economy of 76.3mpg while only producing 98g/km of Co2.

6. Ford Fiesta Econetic - 98g/km and 76.3mpg

The Ford Fiesta Econetic 1.6 litre TDCi engine has to be one of the most entertaining yet economic cars you can buy. Its punchy 1.6-litre TDCi engine averages 76.3mpg and produces only 98g/km of Co2 the same as the Vauxhall Corsa 1.3CDTi 95.

7. Renault Clio - 98g/km and 76.3mpg

The Renault Clio is unlike its rivals as it forms part of the regular Clio line-up, rather than being pushed as a special eco edition. This benefits the customer as the price is not increased as in some cases, the Renault Clio can achieve 76.3mpg while only producing 98g/km of Co2.

8. Volkswagen Golf 99g/km and 74.3
